Programs to help
with lead paint removal Lead paint is dangerous to young children, and it is sometimes present
in houses and apartments built before 1979. If a child chews on lead
paint – which may be found on windowsills, floorboards, built-in
cabinets, and other painted surfaces – he or she may develop serious
health problems.
The Housing Commission offers two programs to help with lead paint
removal – one for those who are participating in the Commission’s
Housing Rehabilitation Program and one for the general public living in
older communities:
Grants for Low-Income Families
Lead paint removal grants are available
citywide for both rental and owner-occupied properties built before 1979
and occupied by low-income families with children under six years of
age, either residing or frequently visiting.
The maximum grant is $15,000 for a single-family residence and $7,500 per
multifamily unit plus $10,000 for common areas.
