Commissioner Tony Yip is a founding partner of the
public accounting firm Brodshatzer, Wallace, Spoon & Yip and is a
Certified Public Accountant. He
has an extensive background in auditing, accounting, and business
operations and expertise in various aspects of business appraisal and
dispute resolution.
Appointed to the Board by Mayor Murphy in June
2002, Yip’s expertise in business and finance serves the
Housing Commission well.
Since the beginning of his public accounting career
in 1980, Yip has worked in a broad variety of business environments,
including manufacturing, construction, wholesale, retail, health care,
property development, and the hotel and restaurant industry. He has served as an expert court witness and consultant in a
variety of cases involving, among other areas, real estate, securities fraud, business valuation, and accounting matters.
Yip's familiarity with the nature of closely held businesses and
professional practices has also enabled him to develop an expertise in
valuation and business appraisal services for various purposes such as
pending purchase and sale transactions, gift and estate tax matters,
and general business litigation.
Yip earned a master’s degree in business
administration from the University of San Diego and graduated summa cum
laude from San Diego State University with a bachelor of science degree
in accounting. Yip has
taught various continuing education courses for law firms and the
University of California, San Diego, Extension program.
