Campaign To End Homelessness

 Helping Homeless San Diegans

The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) is a key supporter of the Campaign to End Homelessness in San Diego - Watch Video.

Organized by the Downtown San Diego Partnership and the Centre City Development Corporation, the effort began in September 2010.

In the early morning hours, 240 volunteers counted 1,040 homeless people living on the streets of downtown San Diego. The goal was to indentify the most vulnerable individuals, then provide them with homes, medical care and social services. Community Partnerships would be essential to this effort.

Using this information, 395 homeless people were identified as being at great risk of dying if they remained on the streets. SDHC provided 125 federal housing choice vouchers, while the County of San Diego funded mental health care services.

On October 17, 2011, in recognition of the Campaign to End Homelessness and the progress that has been made against homelessness, SDHC pledged to further support the efforts of the program.
